See Memos. Robert Cormier born in 1621 was a master- carpenter from La Rochelle married to Marie Pinaude. They came to St.-Pierre, Cape Breton in 1644.
However, Robert's name appears on the census taken at Port Royal. François, fourth generation descendant was deported to England.
Note: Originaire de Larochelle, il arrive à St-Pierre (Ile Royale, Cap Breton) vers 1644. Établi à Port-Royal vers 1650.
Son épouse et son fils Thomas arrivent sur le navire Le Petit St-Pierre afin de venir travailler au fort St-Pierre, Ile du Cap Breton. Le nom Cormier signifie ""Sorbier cultivé"" qui est un genre d'arbre fruitier.
