Comments:
acquired land to build Savedale in 1665 Savedale is the name of the Omand homestead of 400+ years in Stromness (Firth & Steness area of the Orkneys). Assuming the quote means that he purchased or inherited Savedale in 1665.
Mrs Doris Mark indicates that ""Savedale"" is the name of the Omand family homestead in Firth & Stenness and that the family has resided there continuously for over 400 years. This therefore connects this particular gentleman to our Omand family tree…
bought land from James Leask in Clouston in 1650. 1653 & 1658 paid superior duty (taxes) at Auderswick, a holding in the Hillside of Stenness near Bigswell. 20 March 1665 purchased more land in Clouston to create Savedale. Last receipts in 1681.
